THE ADVICE THAT'S KEEPING YOU STUCK (and What No One Tells You)

This week, I had the incredible experience of being the special guest at the TitsUp Mom’s Brunch in Brighton, speaking to a room full of mums and babies. The conversations, the energy, the rawness of it all—it reminded me of something powerful:
Real change happens when we come together.
For years, parents have been left to figure reflux out alone, piecing together conflicting advice, second-guessing themselves, and hoping the next suggestion will be the answer. That’s not how it should be.
Being in a room filled with real mums, asking real questions, sharing real struggles—it reignited something in me. The connection, the truth, the breakthroughs that happen when we step away from the noise and into a space where we can think differently… it’s something I want more of.
One mum sent me this after the event:

And the question she asked about butter? It’s one that so many parents have, and it’s something I knew I had to share with everyone... check out this evenings reel on Instagram to find out more about this!
The first part of this conversation with the mums was broadcast live, when things got personal we stopped the livestream!
This conversation was too powerful not to share, so we made sure to broadcast the introduction live. If you weren’t in the room, you can still catch the replay and hear the insights that sparked so many lightbulb moments.

There’s something I find deeply frustrating—when professionals dismiss or belittle things that work, or could work, simply because they don’t fully understand them. And the worst part? These are often well-known, influential people on social media, shaping how parents think about their babies’ health.
This week, I tackle butter—a food that has incredible nutritional benefits for babies, especially those struggling with reflux. Yet, a sleep consultant recently called it “junk science”. No explanation. No understanding of its role in gut health. Just a flippant dismissal. Her comments are here for you

🧈 So, what’s the scientific truth about butter?
I've created a reel (and a blog for those of you wanting even more detail!) that breaks it all down—why butter is not the enemy, how it supports digestion, fat-soluble vitamin absorption, and gut healing, and why blanket advice like this keeps parents stuck.
Your baby deserves better than outdated, dismissive advice.

MYTH DEBUNK: "If a baby is gaining weight well, they don't have reflux."
Fact: Babies with reflux can exhibit a range of weight patterns:
-
Normal Weight Gain: Some babies continue to gain weight at a typical rate despite experiencing reflux symptoms.
-
Excessive Weight Gain: Reflux can cause discomfort due to stomach acid irritation. To alleviate this, some babies may feed more frequently, as feeding can temporarily soothe the discomfort. This behavior, known as comfort feeding, can lead to above-average weight gain.
-
Poor Weight Gain or Weight Loss: Conversely, reflux can make feeding uncomfortable, leading some babies to feed less, which may result in inadequate weight gain or weight loss. Or indeed, the volume of spit-up means that baby is not retaining sufficient milk to have enough nutrients.
Therefore, relying solely on weight gain or loss as a diagnostic criterion for reflux can be misleading. It's essential to consider a comprehensive range of symptoms and behaviors to accurately identify and address reflux in infants.

The Advice That’s Keeping You Stuck (and What No One Tells You)

So much of the advice parents receive about reflux is oversimplified, dismissive, or flat-out wrong. We’re told to wait it out, try another checklist, or stop questioning things because “weight gain means they’re fine.”
But what if that advice is exactly what’s keeping you stuck?
This week, from speaking with real mums at the TitsUp Brunch to tackling misinformation about butter and weight as a reflux diagnosis, I’ve been reminded of one thing:
🔹 Reflux isn’t just about the baby—it affects you, your mental load, and the way you see yourself as a parent.
🔹 Dismissing foods, symptoms, and concerns without full understanding keeps families in the dark.
🔹 The key to real answers isn’t another list—it’s understanding the whole picture.
This is what Beyond Reflux is all about—giving you the clarity and confidence to break free from outdated advice and finally move forward.

Until next time,
